On Sunday morning, a series of attacks were reported against businesses and vehicles in various municipalities of Quintana Roo. So far, no injuries have been reported, only property damage.

Governor Mara Lezama shared on social media that she met with the Security Council, which is in permanent session, “following up on the actions and operations implemented today to ensure that peace and tranquility continue in our state.”

“Coordination with all three levels of government, institutional presence, and on-the-ground work are being closely maintained in Quintana Roo to provide peace, order, and well-being for everyone,” the governor emphasized.

Regarding the attacks, in Tulum this morning, unknown individuals set fire to an Oxxo convenience store in the La Veleta neighborhood and threw gasoline in an attempt to burn down another store of the same company in the Ejido area. Additionally, a car was set on fire near the local fire station, prompting a large mobilization of emergency and security personnel.

Civil Protection personnel, firefighters, and municipal and state police officers immediately responded to the affected areas to extinguish the flames and secure the zone. Personnel from the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office also participated and initiated the corresponding investigations.

After controlling the fire at the convenience store in Tulum, images circulating on social media showed armed law enforcement agents entering the building in response to a citizen’s report alerting authorities to the presence of two hooded and allegedly armed individuals. However, upon inspection, these individuals were no longer present.

Almost simultaneously, it was reported that in Playa del Carmen, around 10:30 a.m., two vehicles were set on fire in the parking lot of the Centro Maya shopping center, causing alarm among merchants and visitors. Security forces immediately responded to cordon off the area and ensure the safety of the public.

On Federal Highway 307, between Tulum and Felipe Carrillo Puerto, near the Kaan Luum lagoon, a vehicle was abandoned and subsequently set on fire on the side of the road. Although no injuries were reported, traffic was partially affected while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.

Three other vehicles were set on fire on the Cancún-Leona Vicario highway, forcing its closure while cleanup and removal efforts took place. Additionally, police presence was reinforced and vehicle inspections were implemented at the entrance to Cancún on Federal Highway 307.

A National Guard patrol with four officers was stationed on the access road to the Cancún International Airport. The airport reported only one disruption: a flight departing for Guadalajara was delayed.

Meanwhile, a fire broke out inside the Bodega Aurrerá supermarket in Cozumel, which was extinguished by local firefighters. Military personnel and National Guard members also arrived at the scene. In this case, the State Civil Protection Coordination confirmed that it was a short circuit in the kitchen area.
