In the five days of this business week, the Official Gazette of the Federation has published presidential decrees of expropriation in each of them.

With today’s decree, there are now thirteen expropriations totaling more than 75 hectares, all on ejido lands.

On Wednesday, there was a fourteenth land expropriation in the State of Mexico, but the land will be allocated to the National Institute of Urban Development (INSU) for housing regularization.

In previous weeks, expropriations of privately owned land have also been carried out.

This February 20th, the decree signed by President Claudia Sheinbaum is:

DECREE expropriating, for reasons of public utility, the surface area of 20.3637 hectares of the “Lic. Miguel Alemán” ejido, municipality of Candelaria, state of Campeche, in favor of Tren Maya, S.A. de C.V.

This is a long, narrow plot of land comprised of five polygons, which will border the state highway, where it appears new railway lines will be built.

The site may be used for infrastructure projects related to the Mexican government’s strategic project, possibly for new railway lines.

Those affected will be formally notified of these expropriations. The owners will be compensated according to the appraisals issued by the National Institute for Administration and Appraisal of National Assets. They can only challenge the amount of compensation through legal proceedings.

The President has recently decreed expropriations in several municipalities, mostly affecting ejido lands.
