An operation carried out by federal forces in the municipality of Tapalpa resulted in clashes and a series of road blockades in various parts of Jalisco and in regions of the neighboring state of Michoacán, state and municipal authorities reported.

Pablo Lemus, governor of Jalisco, stated that the federal deployment in Tapalpa generated clashes in the area. He also indicated that, as a result of the operation, “individuals have burned and blocked roads with vehicles to hinder the actions of the authorities” in various parts of that region and in other areas of the state.

Given the situation, the governor reported that he ordered the immediate establishment of a security council with authorities from all three levels of government and the activation of “code red” to prevent acts against the population.

Salvador Zamora, Secretary General of the Government of Jalisco, reported that as a result of the federal operation and as part of the measures activated under the red alert, the government has ordered the suspension of public transportation.

Meanwhile, the Tapalpa City Council issued a public notice confirming that an operation involving federal forces is underway in the municipality. The municipal authority stated that, at the time of the statement, they did not have official and detailed information about the events, and therefore would request confirmed data from the relevant agencies.

The municipal government asked the public to remain calm, avoid spreading rumors or unverified information, and stay tuned to official channels.

In this regard, the Federal Security Cabinet reported that “the blockades occurring in some areas of Jalisco as a result of operations carried out by federal institutions are being addressed. Our priority is the safety and protection of the public.”

Meanwhile, the Michoacán Public Security Secretariat reported that operations are ongoing at various points throughout the state to restore traffic flow following road blockades resulting from efforts to capture criminal targets.

The Michoacán C5 (Command, Control, Communications, Computing, and Intelligence Center) reported traffic disruptions in several regions, including Jiquilpan, Sahuayo, Chavinda, Lázaro Cárdenas, Pátzcuaro, Coeneo, Quiroga, La Piedad, Numarán, Yurécuaro, Churintzio, Zamora, Ecuandureo, Tangancícuaro, Chilchota, Ixtlán, Apatzingán, Buenavista, and Aguililla.

Among the reported incidents were the burning of several vehicles, a tractor-trailer blocking a highway, active fires—including one involving a tanker truck—and a fire at a gas station in the town of El Aguaje, in the municipality of Aguililla. Blockades were also reported on sections of the Autopista de Occidente (Western Highway) and on federal and state highways.

Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, governor of Michoacán, announced on social media that a security meeting has been convened with federal and state authorities in response to the roadblocks set up in reaction to a federal operation: “State and federal forces are maintaining a coordinated deployment to restore order, clear roads, and protect the population. We are acting firmly and responsibly to guarantee the safety of all citizens.”

State authorities urged the public to exercise extreme caution and follow official instructions while efforts continue to restore traffic flow and reinforce security in the affected areas.

To date, there has been no official report on arrests or the outcome of the clashes in Tapalpa, Jalisco, or the events in Michoacán.

The effects of the federal operations have spread to Guanajuato, where pharmacies and convenience stores have been set on fire in several municipalities, including Guanajuato City, Moroleón, Irapuato, Silao, León, and Purísima del Rincón.

So far, no injuries have been reported, although significant property damage has occurred, according to the Guanajuato State Secretariat of Security and Peace.

In response, the agency, in coordination with the Army, the National Guard, and municipal police forces, deployed an operation to protect the population and maintain order in the affected areas.

These incidents come on the heels of recent clashes and road blockades in Jalisco and Michoacán resulting from various operations carried out by federal security forces.
