The San Cristóbal de Las Casas Hotel Association affirms that security and the rule of law are key to protecting tourism and the regional economy following the events in Río Florido, Ocosingo.

In light of the recent events in the town of Río Florido, in the municipality of Ocosingo, in the Selva region of Chiapas, the San Cristóbal de Las Casas Hotel Association expressed its institutional support for the rule of law, legality, and social peace in the state.

The organization noted that San Cristóbal de Las Casas and other municipalities in the state depend heavily on tourism, and therefore acknowledged the actions of the authorities in clearing the highway after the blockade.

The hoteliers emphasized the importance of institutional action, acting responsibly and decisively in situations that threaten the peace of mind of Chiapas families and damage the image of tourist destinations. They emphasized that security is a fundamental pillar for economic development, visitor confidence, and the stability of thousands of families who depend directly and indirectly on this activity.

“Our San Cristóbal de Las Casas is a destination with a strong tourism, cultural, and social focus. For those of us in the hotel sector in the Jovel Valley, it is essential to preserve an environment of order, legal certainty, and dialogue within the framework of the law,” they stated in a press release.

Finally, as business owners from San Cristóbal, they reiterated their willingness to collaborate with authorities at all three levels of government and with the various productive sectors to strengthen actions that promote security, peaceful coexistence, and the sustainable development of the region.

“As an organized sector, we reaffirm our commitment to hospitality, quality service, and building a reliable destination for national and international visitors,” they concluded.
