Mexico has set a new Guinness World Record by creating “the world’s largest human image of a soccer jersey,” a milestone the federal government has incorporated into its agenda leading up to the 2026 World Cup.
The achievement took place in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, inside the Víctor Manuel Reyna Stadium, where 4,757 people participated in forming a monumental jersey measuring 48 meters wide (including the sleeves) and 35.5 meters high, making it the largest of its kind in the world.
The Ministry of Tourism stated in a press release that the figure incorporated representations of all 32 federal entities, identified by pennants, as a symbol of national unity on the road to 2026.
Josefina Rodríguez Zamora emphasized that the record is part of the Social World Cup, a strategy that seeks to involve the population in sports, cultural, and community activities in preparation for the tournament.
“With the Social World Cup, we aim to carry out sporting, cultural, gastronomic, and social activities for both Mexicans and international visitors. We want the 2026 World Cup to be experienced in every community and for its legacy to be social, cultural, and touristic,” he stated.
The agency noted that the initiative brought together thousands of people who, in an organized manner, formed a large-scale human figure representing a jersey, in a collective exercise that combined organization, identity, and social enthusiasm, according to the press release.
The second challenge, scheduled for Sunday, March 15, in Mexico City, will seek to create the world’s largest soccer class.
The third is planned for the end of May in Baja California Sur and will consist of a monumental mural featuring local urban talent.
Rodríguez Zamora maintained that these actions strengthen Mexico’s position as a host destination for large-scale events, generate international media exposure, and contribute to boosting tourism, in addition to promoting social cohesion and stimulating the local economy.
