The three members of the National Guard (GN) who died during the operation against Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho,” were laid to rest in the municipalities of Cintalapa, Copainalá, and Pichucalco.

The agents’ bodies were buried in recent hours in the municipalities where they were from.

Their remains arrived at the Ángel Albino Corzo Airport and from there were transported by land to Cintalapa, on the border with Oaxaca; Pichucalco, on the border with Tabasco; and the municipality of Copainalá, about 97 kilometers from Tuxtla Gutiérrez.

The coffins were draped with the Mexican flag upon their arrival on a military plane, where they were received by members of the National Guard who stood guard in honor of the three officers who died in Tapalpa on Sunday morning.

The young men, from farming families with limited resources, returned to their homes where they were mourned by friends, acquaintances, and family amidst applause, cheers, and music.

The public showed its support for the families of the Chiapas National Guard members killed in the operation in Tapalpa. “You are not alone; your pain is the pain of all Chiapas and the entire country.” “Our three fallen are the true guardians of peace,” said social media users.

The mayor of Pantepec, a municipality bordering Copainalá, expressed his solidarity with the families. “May these two Chiapas heroes rest in peace,” he said.

The death of the U.S. citizen was due to a pre-existing medical condition, according to the Sonora Attorney General’s Office; the cause of death was a ruptured artery.
