Around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Edilberto “N,” the operational director of Public Safety, Preventive Police, and Municipal Transit in Los Cabos, was arrested following the death of Citlali “N,” a 24-year-old officer with the police force assigned to the Immediate Reaction Force (FRI).

The young woman was rushed to a hospital after being shot, but her death was confirmed minutes later.

According to initial reports, the arrest occurred near the ISSSTE hospital in the Rosarito neighborhood of San José del Cabo, where the injured officer had been taken.

Investigative personnel and ministerial authorities detained the police commander and turned him over to the appropriate authorities while investigations are conducted to determine his responsibility in the incident.

The victim, identified as 24-year-old Citlali “N,” was an active member of the Los Cabos Municipal Police.

According to preliminary information, the officer was shot in the back inside the police chief’s office, located within the police department’s facilities. Subsequently, her colleagues transported her in a patrol car to the ISSSTE hospital.

Around 1:30 p.m., her arrival at the emergency room was reported, where she was attended to by medical personnel. However, her death was confirmed minutes later.

The State Attorney General’s Office reported that criminal investigation agents and forensic experts arrived to carry out the corresponding procedures, and an investigation file was opened to clarify the case.

Although one of the initial hypotheses suggests that the shooting may have occurred accidentally while handling a firearm, the authorities indicated that the case will be investigated with a gender perspective to determine if it constitutes femicide.

The case shakes the department and prompts an internal investigation.
The death of the young officer caused shock within the municipal security force, as it occurred inside police facilities.

Meanwhile, the State Attorney General’s Office continues its scientific and legal investigations to determine precisely how the shooting occurred, assign responsibility, and establish whether the case should be classified as femicide.
