The restaurant sector in Mazatlán urged the federal Cabinet to prioritize preventative measures over corrective ones to strengthen confidence in the destination.

They emphasized the need for improved security in the Golden Zone, the Malecón (boardwalk), and the Historic Center, as well as support for large-scale events and a federal promotional campaign for Mazatlán.

Cecilia Osuna Guerrero, president of Canirac Mazatlán (the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry), outlined her proposal in five key areas. She will present it at the tourism sector meeting with Federal Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, Executive Secretary of the National Public Security System Marcela Figueroa Franco, and Fonatur (the National Tourism Development Fund) Director Sebastián Ramírez Mendoza.

Osuna Guerrero is participating in the meeting, along with 20 other business owners, chamber leaders, and association representatives, with federal officials, the state Tourism Secretariat, the Mayor of Mazatlán, and other authorities, all working to support Mazatlán’s tourism sector.

“I’m sharing our participation in this meeting as president and representative of Canirac, where we outlined five main priorities.”

Her proposal emphasizes increasing security presence in tourist areas.

“We would like to strengthen security presence in key tourist areas such as the Golden Zone, the Historic Center, and the Malecón, especially during peak seasons and events, to instill confidence in visitors.”

She will also request participation in a permanent tourism-security-business sector coordination committee to anticipate situations and strengthen confidence in the destination. “We want to be proactive rather than reactive.”

She will also request a national promotional campaign for Mazatlán.

“Mazatlán has a strong tourism focus. We believe that a national promotional campaign highlighting the destination’s safety, gastronomy, and experiences can greatly help strengthen visitor confidence.”

She will also request greater support for federal government events that attract tourism, such as Motorcycle Week and food festivals, which generate significant economic benefits.

“We would like to strengthen them with institutional support and coordination,” he stated.

Finally, he mentioned the need for the federal government to implement a positive communication strategy for the destination, highlighting Mazatlán’s tourism strengths, because the perception of the destination directly influences visitor arrivals.

This collection of proposals reflects the feelings and needs of the restaurant sector, which has experienced business closures since the wave of violence began in Sinaloa.

The private working meeting between the tourism sector and the federal Cabinet is taking place inside the facilities of the Fourth Naval Region in Mazatlán.
