Two men linked to drug-related roadblocks in the state of Veracruz were arrested on the border between Veracruz and Oaxaca, according to the Oaxaca State Attorney General’s Office. During the joint security operation between the two states, an operations center belonging to a criminal cell was located, and high-powered weapons were seized.

In a statement released Friday morning, March 13, the Oaxaca Attorney General’s Office announced the arrest of the two men, identified as Ulises “N,” 27, and Ramiro “N,” 38. According to initial investigations, they are believed to be part of a criminal cell involved in illegal roadblocks and the burning of vehicles on roads and highways, primarily in the state of Veracruz.

The Attorney General’s Offices of the states of Oaxaca and Veracruz participated in this operation, along with the Public Security Secretariats (SSP) of both states, the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), and the National Guard (GN).

According to official information, the operation took place in Tezonapa, Veracruz, and in the municipality of Cosolapa, Oaxaca. The two municipalities are separated by only one street.

In this area, within the Papaloapan River Basin region, an operations center for the aforementioned criminal cell was located. This cell is linked to the criminal group of “El Tigre,” which operates primarily on the Veracruz side of the border.

In addition to the arrest of the two alleged members of this cell, firearms and replicas were seized, along with military uniforms and tactical equipment used to impersonate officials for illicit activities. Authorities also confiscated identification cards, dozens of doses of drugs, and various types of vehicles.

“The Oaxaca Attorney General’s Office reiterates its commitment to strengthening security and law enforcement efforts through inter-institutional coordination and close collaboration with agencies in neighboring states to guarantee social peace in the state’s eight regions,” the official statement reads.

To date, authorities in the state of Veracruz have not reported on these joint operations with Oaxaca. The detainees and the seized items were turned over to the Oaxaca Attorney General’s Office to determine their legal status.
