The Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation, Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, and the Director General of the National Water Commission, Efraín Morales López, announced the highway and water infrastructure projects that the federal government is promoting in Colima. These projects represent an investment of 10 billion pesos to improve connectivity and water supply in the state.

During the president’s morning press conference held at the Sixth Naval Region in Manzanillo, Esteva Medina explained that the infrastructure projects include road maintenance, the construction of bridges and interchanges, and the modernization of highways and rural roads. He indicated that this year, 184 kilometers of the toll-free federal highway network are being addressed, representing almost 70% of the state’s total.

The official highlighted progress on strategic projects such as the Arco Norte and Arco Sur bridges in the city of Colima, as well as new bridges in Manzanillo and roadways designed to improve mobility and reduce travel times.

Overall, he noted, the investment in highway infrastructure amounts to approximately 8.9 billion pesos and will generate around 1,600 direct and indirect jobs.

For his part, Morales López explained that the National Water Commission’s actions are focused on strengthening the water supply for the Colima-Villa de Álvarez metropolitan area, where projects are underway that will double the availability of potable water, with an approximate investment of 2.178 billion pesos and a 40-year plan.

He also highlighted hydro-agricultural infrastructure projects to benefit up to 4,000 productive hectares and local projects to rehabilitate networks, wells, and pumping stations in various municipalities. He indicated that these actions aim to guarantee access to water in neighborhoods that currently lack the service and to strengthen agricultural activity.

Both officials agreed that federal investments in road, water and social infrastructure represent a boost to the economic and social development of Colima, with resources exceeding 10 billion pesos in works during the current government period.
