The growth of maritime trade and the arrival of cruise ships have strengthened the Port of Manzanillo’s position as one of the main economic drivers of western Mexico and a strategic hub for tourism and business in Colima.
Located on Mexico’s Pacific coast, the port has established itself as a key platform for trade and logistics development, while also generating investment opportunities in sectors such as tourism, hospitality, and services.
Currently, the Port of Manzanillo is Mexico’s most important port in terms of container traffic and one of the most significant in Latin America.
In 2024, it handled approximately 3.9 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), a volume that represented roughly 42% of the total cargo handled in the country, reaffirming its role as the main logistics hub on Mexico’s Pacific coast.
Port activity has remained strong throughout 2025. In the first two months of the year, the port registered a 3.9% increase in container traffic, exceeding 642,000 TEUs, driven primarily by the rise in imports and exports related to the manufacturing and commercial sectors of central and western Mexico.
Logistics activity also impacts the region’s tourism sector. The constant arrival of commercial vessels and cruise ships generates a flow of visitors, crews, and executives who demand lodging, dining, transportation, and tourist activities.
During 2025, 18 cruise ships arrived at the port, carrying 39,907 passengers and 17,832 crew members, representing a total of 57,739 people aboard these vessels.
The port’s development is complemented by expansion projects and investments in logistics infrastructure aimed at increasing its operational capacity in the coming years.
These projects will also strengthen the port’s land and sea connectivity, potentially solidifying Manzanillo’s position as a strategic hub for national and international trade.
At the same time, this growth opens opportunities for the development of tourism, real estate, and service projects related to business tourism.
The combination of port activity, tourism infrastructure, and proximity to the country’s main industrial corridors positions Manzanillo as a convergence point for logistics, tourism, and economic development.
In this context, the growth of the Port of Manzanillo not only strengthens Mexico’s logistics competitiveness but also promotes Colima as an emerging destination where tourism and business advance together.
