The governor of Veracruz, Rocío Nahle García, announced that the construction and rehabilitation of the Hidalgotitlán-Uxpanapa highway will begin in 2026. She affirmed that this was a commitment she made during her gubernatorial campaign and that she will now fulfill it.
This Friday, March 13, in the municipality of Minatitlán, where Bienpesca cards from the Federal Government’s Welfare Program were distributed, the governor announced several projects to be carried out in the southern region of Veracruz.
Among them is the construction of the Hidalgotitlán-Uxpanapa highway. Although she did not give a start date for these works, she assured that 20 kilometers of the more than 100 kilometers that comprise this road will be completed in 2026. She affirmed that this was a commitment she made during her campaign after visiting all 212 municipalities of the state “on the ground.”
“During the campaign, you see how effective a grassroots campaign is, visiting all 212 municipalities. I traveled from Minatitlán to Hidalgotitlán and from Hidalgotitlán to Uxpanapa, and then I returned via the federal highway. There in Uxpanapa, I made a commitment that we would build the Hidalgotitlán-Uxpanapa highway, and this year we’re starting with 20 kilometers. I’m going to work on it in sections because it’s a long road, so this year I’m starting with 20 kilometers,” the state governor told residents of southern Veracruz.
According to residents of the region, the highway is deteriorated and in very poor condition, with some sections unpaved and others paved, but it hasn’t been maintained for years and is therefore not in optimal condition.
Other Projects Announced by Nahle for Southern Veracruz
This Friday, from Minatitlán, Rocío Nahle announced other projects planned for southern Veracruz. These include roads, the rehabilitation of the entrance to the municipality of Minatitlán near the Pepsi plant, and the construction of the Teletón Children’s Rehabilitation and Inclusion Center (CRIT) in the same municipality.
Another project already underway is the Niño Artillero Bridge, which is part of this package of projects for southern Veracruz.
“I have already received requests for roads; I am working with the mayors to develop a mechanism for these projects,” she said.
She noted that in the case of Minatitlán, the roads will be built with asphalt, as Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) has already begun producing this material at its Minatitlán refinery. “Pemex has already offered to supply asphalt to the Minatitlán area. The refinery has already started production, and some of this asphalt could be used for the roads here,” he said.
Finally, he spoke about the Teletón Children’s Rehabilitation and Inclusion Center (CRIT), which will serve not only this municipality but also others in southern Veracruz and even the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in Oaxaca. He said that for this project, which amounts to 500 million pesos, the state government will invest half of the cost.
“Here, the state of Veracruz is contributing half of the construction; we’re contributing half because that’s what our taxes are for. Building a center of that size costs between 400 and 500 million pesos; we’re contributing half, so they can build it and do it,” he said.
