Infrastructure work for the most anticipated sporting event of the year is progressing steadily. The state capital has begun transforming its public squares to accommodate the regulation courts that will host the world’s best beach volleyball players.

Daniel Moncayo Cervantes, director of the Tlaxcala Sports Institute (IDET), reported that the main venue at the Jorge “El Ranchero” Aguilar bullring is practically finished. Significant progress has also been made on the court in front of the Art Museum and on the warm-up areas located in Plaza Xicohténcatl and in front of the Government Palace.

Sporting activities have already begun internally with the arrival of the Mexican delegation, which is currently holding practice sessions at the ITJ facilities. It is expected that between Tuesday and Wednesday, 85 percent of the participating countries will be in the state.

“In practically two more days, all the courts will be 100 percent finished. Once they’re set up, the entire community will be able to watch the athletes train at different times, free of charge,” Moncayo Cervantes emphasized regarding the event’s opening to the public.

One of the most distinctive elements of this edition is the sand used, brought from Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz. This material has undergone a special chemical treatment that prevents it from absorbing heat, allowing for continuous play regardless of high ambient temperatures. After the tournament concludes, the tons of processed sand will be reused in schools, sports centers, and the CONADE high-performance center.

Under the constant supervision of the International Volleyball Federation, the event will not be limited to the official competition. This year’s Fanfest will incorporate recreational activities and the participation of international DJs to offer a complete entertainment experience for both locals and visitors.
