Residents of the Gaviotas neighborhood in Mazatlán’s Golden Zone expressed their discontent with the construction of a seafood and beer business on the corner of Gaviotas Avenue and Río de la Plata Street.
The residents stated that they have observed an increase in construction and commercial projects in the area for several years, which they consider a change in land use that has not been clearly communicated to the community.
The president of the Gaviotas neighborhood association, Rodolfo Kelly, pointed out that in recent years there has been an increase in housing units, leading to a greater demand for public services, which is increasingly affecting them.
“We’ve been dealing with this problem for several years now; when Luis Guillermo Benítez was mayor, he flooded our neighborhood with construction. More than 500 families are affected; the electrical load is a problem, and the drainage and water demand are excessive,” he said.
The business is not currently operating, having been shut down on March 14th by the Sustainable Urban Development Department.
This Monday, a group of residents met to express their discontent, as their main concern is that the establishment could generate noise, alcohol consumption, and parking problems within the neighborhood, which was originally designed as a single-family residential development and is located just a few meters from a church.
