More than 10,000 athletes from 16 countries participated in the HYROX Cancun 2026 international fitness racing competition, held from March 13 to 15 at the Malecón Tajamar boardwalk, with an estimated attendance of over 30,000 people, including competitors, companions, and spectators.

The event was inaugurated by the Governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama, and the Mayor of Benito Juárez, Ana Paty Peralta, who fired the starting horn for this competition that also brought together participants from more than 20 states across Mexico.

During the opening ceremony, the mayor emphasized that promoting sports is part of the efforts to foster health and community engagement, as well as strengthen sports tourism in the destination.

According to the organizers, this edition marked the first time the competition was held outdoors, with the Malecón Tajamar boardwalk serving as the venue.

The event was organized by the state government and the Benito Juárez city council, with support from the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council, the State Tourism Secretariat, and the Municipal Tourism Secretariat.

The competition brought together athletes from countries such as Canada, the United States, and various European nations, which, according to local authorities, strengthens the destination’s position as a host for international sporting events.

HYROX is a fitness racing circuit created in 2017 in Hamburg, Germany, and is now held in various cities around the world. The competition combines an eight-kilometer run with eight functional exercise stations that test the participants’ endurance and strength.

During the event, competitors started in waves of 40 athletes every 10 minutes to complete the course.
