One week after the intensified operation against vehicles with tinted windows and without license plates, state authorities inspected 2,090 vehicles in various municipalities of Chiapas, resulting in 872 drivers removing the tint from their vehicles, according to data from the Chiapas State Attorney General’s Office.
The record corresponds to the period from March 9 to 15, during which time citations were also issued as a result of these inspections. It is worth noting that on Monday, March 9, the Governor of the State of Chiapas, Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar, announced the increased enforcement of these inspections via his social media accounts.
According to Article 92, Section XXXIII of the Tuxtla Gutiérrez Traffic and Road Safety Regulations, it is a traffic violation to display signs, posters, or opaque objects on windshields, windows, and side windows that obstruct the driver’s view and/or visibility into the vehicle. Meanwhile, Article 160, Section III of the Chiapas State Traffic Regulations states that driving with tinted windows or films applied to them that obstruct the driver’s view is a traffic violation, except for factory-installed tint.
