Four homicides in one month in Bahía Tortugas, Baja California Sur; burned vehicle found

A 57-year-old man was shot and killed Tuesday morning in the town of Bahía Tortugas, in the municipality of Mulegé, in northern Baja California Sur. This marks the fourth homicide in less than a month in this coastal town.

The attack was reported around 6:40 a.m., after authorities received reports of gunfire. Upon arriving at the scene in the Primero de Septiembre neighborhood, officers found the victim dead in the street.

The Baja California Sur Attorney General’s Office (PGJE) confirmed that a burning SUV was found a few blocks away, prompting firefighters to extinguish the blaze.

PGJE forensic experts processed the scene and collected evidence that will be included in the investigation. The body was taken to the Forensic Medical Service for an autopsy.

The victim has been identified by a family member, while the Public Prosecutor’s Office continues its investigation to clarify the crime and locate those responsible.

This homicide occurs within the context of violence plaguing the northern region of the state, and particularly in this fishing community of approximately two thousand inhabitants, where fishing leaders and representatives of the Catholic Church have reported extortion. This is the fourth homicide in less than a month in this town.
