Esteban Villegas expressed his pride in returning to his alma mater to commemorate an institution that has been key in the education of generations of Durango residents. He noted that the UJED (Juárez University of the State of Durango) represents the cultural, social, and humanistic identity of the state and is the space where the thinking that guides Durango is developed.

He asserted that the University not only trains professionals but also citizens with values, vision, and responsibility, capable of guiding the state. He cautioned that Durango cannot be built on improvisation but rather on well-prepared talent. He emphasized that today a different kind of education is needed, one that responds to a digital, changing, and complex world, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, innovation, and holistic development.

The state governor affirmed that education is the foundation for Durango’s future, reiterating his government’s support for the UJED (Juárez University of the State of Durango) to advance into a new era that addresses current challenges, where artificial intelligence is a tool for development and not a substitute for human development. He declared that the University has the task of teaching not only how to do things, but why and for what purpose to do them, with a social conscience and a vision for the future.

For his part, Rector Ramón García recalled that the UJED has a history of more than four centuries in the educational development of Durango, from its origins to its consolidation as a university, and emphasized that beyond its structure, it is a living community that reflects and builds the thinking of Durango society.

He added that the University faces new challenges today, such as digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and social changes. He therefore called for unity among students, faculty, and authorities to continue innovating in education, maintain university pride, and strengthen its role as a space for training, dialogue, and development for the state.

Those present at the event included Ernesto Alanís Herrera, President of the Board of Government and Political Coordination of the State Congress; Manuel Valadés Díaz, President of the Superior Court of Justice; Héctor Vela Valenzuela, Secretary General of the Government; Bonifacio Herrera Rivera, Secretary of the Municipal Government of Durango; Brigadier General Pedro Alberto Hernández Gallardo, State Coordinator of the National Guard in Durango; and General Salvador Alvarado Ramírez, Commander of the 10th Military Zone.
