The governor of Baja California Sur, Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío, expressed his full support for Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum in light of the recent international situation.

On Friday, Sheinbaum engaged in a verbal exchange with Jeffrey Lichtman, lawyer for Ovidio Guzmán López; and on Saturday, she had to respond to the threat of 30 percent tariffs issued by U.S. President Donald Trump.

From La Paz, Baja California Sur, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo inaugurated a new hemodynamics room at the IMSS Bienestar “Juan María de Salvatierra” Specialty Hospital and announced an additional investment of 300 million pesos (MXN) to strengthen the institution in the state.

“And in this case, we made the decision to support Baja California Sur with an additional 300 million pesos, effective immediately, because there will be no shortage of resources. When it comes to the health of the people, no resource can be lacking. This means equipment, personnel, ensuring that all health centers and hospitals are operational, and also addressing all the labor demands of our colleagues who work in health centers and hospitals.”

He announced various actions by the Mexican government for Baja California Sur, including the construction of the El Novillo Dam to improve the supply of drinking water; the purchase of buses for the new public transportation system; and the rehabilitation of the Transpeninsular Highway, also known as the Benito Juárez García Highway.

The Secretary of Health, David Kershenobich Stalnikowitz, stated that these new facilities represent a universal model for the quality and efficiency of medical care, as they will be able to serve everyone regardless of their insurance coverage.

The Director General of IMSS Bienestar, Alejandro Svarch Pérez, explained that the additional investment of 300 million pesos will be used to ensure the full operation of 14 operating rooms in the state, recognize the “Juan María de Salvatierra” Hospital as a tertiary care facility, upgrade the air conditioning system, and install a new CT scanner.

Five new mobile medical units will also be acquired; a new Comprehensive Health Center (CESSA) will be built in Vizcaíno; the primary care network in San José de Los Cabos will be strengthened; and a hemodynamics room will be inaugurated at the General Hospital of Santa Rosalía, in Mulegé.
