Writers from Querétaro will be promoted at the 2026 Hay Festival

The Querétaro Ministry of Culture secured federal funding from the Profest program to support the 2026 Hay Festival, as there was a risk that the event would disappear from the country, reported the head of the agency, Ana Paola López Birlain.

She explained that the operating rules for accessing these funds were very specific, making it impossible to continue supporting the Oxímoron Festival; consequently, they competed with the Hay Festival.

She added that an agreement was reached with the Hay Festival organizers to promote local authors in this year’s edition, both in Querétaro and in Cartagena, Peru, and Wales.

“The commitment we made with the Hay Festival is that the literary awards we select this year will subsequently allow authors to participate in festivals such as Cartagena, Peru, and Wales,” she specified.

López Birlain noted that a co-edition and printing of books by Querétaro writers will also take place, thanks to the commercial partnerships maintained by the Hay Festival.

He recalled that last year 1.5 million pesos were allocated for the event; however, this year only the 600,000 pesos obtained through federal funds will be used.
