Heat and humidity trigger pests

The first rains in the state, combined with rising temperatures, have begun to create favorable conditions for the proliferation of various urban pests, reported Miguel Ángel Patiño, a member of the Pest Control Association in Aguascalientes.

The specialist explained that, although the rainfall has been incipient, the resulting humidity is sufficient to activate the biological cycles of species such as mosquitoes, whose presence begins to intensify at this time of year.

He added that, in parallel, an increase in cockroach activity has been observed. These insects tend to move more frequently on exposed urban surfaces, such as sidewalks, deteriorated structures, and areas with accumulated waste. This behavior is directly associated with the increase in ambient temperature.

Regarding scorpions, he indicated that there are already reports of their presence in various locations, a phenomenon that could also be favored by the recent weather conditions.

In contrast, he noted that the presence of rodents has decreased compared to previous months, which is due to seasonal variations in their behavior.

Despite the increase in pest activity, he pointed out that the pest control sector has not seen the usual growth in demand for services during this season. He commented that, in previous years, the onset of warmer weather represented a 35 to 40 percent increase in service contracts; however, in the current context, activity remains at lower levels, between 20 and 25 percent.

Finally, he emphasized that addressing these factors promptly can help reduce health risks and prevent the spread of species that affect both health and living conditions in urban areas.
