Morena party member blames Calderón and Peña for the violence in the country and the shootout in Teotihuacán

Congresswoman Gabriela Valdepeñas, from the Morena party, attributed the recent violence in Teotihuacán to the “cursed legacy” of the Felipe Calderón and Enrique Peña Nieto administrations. Speaking from the floor of the Chamber of Deputies, she recalled that the PAN and PRI administrations saw more than 270,000 homicides, arguing that the current chaos is a consequence of those six-year terms that is only now beginning to be reversed.

Valdepeñas labeled the opposition’s criticisms following the local crimes as “political opportunism,” thus bolstering the current national security strategy. According to the congresswoman, the criticisms ignore the historical origins of the conflict and seek to undermine the results that, she asserts, Morena is achieving in curbing the upward trend.
