The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles has chosen Guanajuato to host its first international awards gala, a move that puts the state, and particularly San Miguel de Allende, on the global radar of the wine industry.

The announcement, supported by state and municipal authorities, confirms that the state will host the CMB Gala in 2026 and 2027, an event that will bring together producers, investors, and experts from more than 55 countries.

The mayor of San Miguel de Allende, Mauricio Trejo, emphasized that this achievement is the result of years of work to revive the state’s winemaking tradition.

“In Guanajuato, things are being done well, very well, in terms of grapes and wine… it’s a project that began 13 years ago to bring back this tradition and access a type of tourism we didn’t have before, such as wine tourism.”

He also highlighted that this initiative has positioned San Miguel as a national benchmark.

“San Miguel de Allende has just been named the most important wine region in the entire country.”

For her part, Lupita Robles León, Secretary of Tourism and Identity, emphasized the significance of the event, stating that it is not just an awards ceremony, but a global platform for business and promotion.

“Vineyard and winery owners from all over the world will be attending… they are the decision-makers,” she explained.

The official added that this gathering will help showcase Guanajuato as a leading wine tourism destination.

“This opens up a tremendous opportunity to further position Guanajuato among the strongest states in this industry.”

The agenda includes an international tasting on November 29 featuring some of the world’s best wines, open to the public, and the awards gala on November 30, in a format similar to major international ceremonies.

The competition director, Carlos Borboa, explained that the selection of Guanajuato is part of a strategic vision.

“We are part of this vision to strengthen not only wine production, but also wine tourism and the entire wine experience.”

With this designation, Guanajuato not only adds an internationally renowned event, but also positions itself as the epicenter of wine in Latin America.

“Today’s announcement will put Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende on the world map of grapes and wine,” concluded the mayor of San Miguel de Allende.
