After at least four years, changes are expected in the management of the Maya Train project, as Brigadier General Oscar David Lozano Aguila, the director general, will be transferred to Mexico City at the direction of the Secretary of National Defense. As is known, Lozano Aguila was appointed director general when the Maya Train began operations in Palenque, Chiapas, encompassing the states of Tabasco, Campeche, Quintana Roo, and Yucatan, with a total of seven sections.
His offices were built in the city of Merida, near the Siglo XXI Convention Center, where the project operates in the five southeastern states.
According to investigations, the director general has already been called to other assignments by the Ministry of National Defense, so the handover process will take place in Merida in the coming days.
It is presumed that General Felipe Ayala Chavez, the head of Rail Transport, will also be replaced. In the case of General Lozano Chavez, there are reports indicating that he will be replaced by another Brigadier General, who previously headed the Army Bank at the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), but the replacement has not yet been officially announced.
Incidentally, our investigations have revealed that railcars and locomotives are arriving in both Tenosique, Tabasco, and the city of Merida for the freight train project, which is expected to be operational soon.
However, there is significant concern within the federal administration and government due to the sinking of piers supporting part of the bridge on section five of the highway connecting Playa del Carmen with Tulum, Quintana Roo. These piers are currently being shored up to prevent them from collapsing into the caverns, some of which are even cenotes.
