The Veracruz Civil Protection Directorate will raise red flags on Saturday as soon as high waves begin to form on the beaches, indicating that it is unsafe to enter the water, said Director Guadalupe Tapia.
She indicated that red flags will be raised as early as Friday afternoon if the waves are high, even before the northerly winds have fully arrived.
She added that the beaches are expected to remain under red flags throughout Saturday, but people will be allowed to stay on the sand and only enter the water when the water is deep enough to reach their knees.
On Sunday, the wind is expected to subside, at which point the red flags will be removed and swimming will be permitted, with caution advised.
