The first eight buses that will operate on Line 5 Macro Airport have arrived in Guadalajara. These are 100% electric vehicles equipped with air conditioning and other features designed to ensure a comfortable, accessible, and safe travel experience for everyone, according to the Jalisco State Government.

Local authorities are preparing to launch this mobility project before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and the buses will begin testing on the Chapala Highway in the coming days.

The new public transportation line will have nine stations along the Chapala Highway, connecting the Guadalajara International Airport with the Periférico (ring road). It will also have branches to Chivas Stadium, Agua Azul Park, and Expo Guadalajara.

The buses are Volvo Luminus BZR models. The buses are equipped with air conditioning, have a capacity for 80 passengers, and feature universal accessibility, including an access ramp, a wheelchair space with secure restraints, tactile paving, and Braille signage.

To enhance the user experience, USB ports, luggage racks, and a video surveillance system have also been added.

Amílcar López Zepeda, general director of the Urban Electric Train System (SITEUR), explained that these first eight buses are part of a fleet of 41 buses that will serve Line 5, which, in its initial phase, will have the capacity to transport 27,000 passengers daily.

“This will be an innovation in the city’s mass transit operation, because these buses can enter and exit the corridor, as some already do with the Macro Periférico; but they are much larger, more spacious, 100 percent electric buses, with a range of 370 kilometers on a single charge, and air conditioning,” he explained.

To bolster the system’s operation, new articulated 7800 Electric buses, zero-emission options for urban mobility, will also arrive in the city in the coming days.

According to authorities, these buses are equipped with high-performance dual electric motors and batteries of up to 720 kWh. They offer range, energy efficiency, and a fast-charging system of up to 250 kW. Designed for large cities, they have a capacity for 130 passengers.

El recorrido de la nueva línea de transporte público estará segmentado en nueve estaciones ubicadas sobre la Carretera a Chapala. ESPECIAL
