The proposal to end classes on June 5th due to the World Cup has been rejected by parents in Querétaro, as it will negatively impact their children’s education and disrupt family schedules.
Jazmín Romero, the mother of a primary school student, believes this decision will negatively affect their child’s education, as it means more than a month without classes. She therefore rejected the proposal.
“I really think it’s wrong that they’ve cut back on classes because if they’re not learning as it is, and then they cut a month, it’s too much. Children need to be in class to learn,” she explained.
She added that this will also affect families because most parents work, as they have to take their daughter to school and then go to work.
“It’s wrong because these days we need more study time, and we need them to learn more things at school. I see that the government doesn’t see it that way; the government wants to focus on other things,” she stated.
According to parents, private schools have sent out notices stating that classes will end on July 15th, not June 5th as proposed by the Ministry of Public Education (SEP).
Paulina, a mother and teacher, explained that her son attends a private secondary school, and while they confirmed they will finish the school year on July 15th, the rest of the schools will be affected.
“The school said they will take action, but that the school year will end on the date indicated by the SEP. As a working mother, I feel the level of education in Mexico is precarious,” she asserted.
