Congresswoman Adriana Meza presented a motion in the Querétaro Congress urging the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) to expedite the roadworks on the Palmillas-Querétaro section of Federal Highway 57.
The legislator explained that the motion addresses the impact on mobility and road safety resulting from the highway modernization project.
According to the technical analysis presented, travel times have increased, in some cases by up to 100%, along with a higher concentration of traffic incidents in the construction zones.
The congresswoman noted that the increase in accidents is related to factors such as lane reductions, traffic congestion, and the temporary detours implemented during the construction.
Furthermore, it was noted that traffic conditions have negatively impacted the psychosocial health of drivers, due to increased stress levels, fatigue, and a heightened perception of road insecurity caused by prolonged periods spent in traffic.
The agreement emphasizes that, while infrastructure projects are fundamental for regional development and the state’s connectivity, they must be carried out under principles of road safety, operational efficiency, and minimizing disruptions.
The legislative instrument also requests that the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) submit an updated technical report on the project’s progress, reinforce safety measures and preventative signage, and implement strategies to reduce traffic congestion on the affected section of road.
