The Jalisco Secretariat of Security announced this Friday the rescue of a U.S. citizen who had been unlawfully detained, as well as the arrest of the alleged kidnapper.
In a press release, the state agency specified that the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had issued an alert requesting assistance in locating the individual.
In response, state and federal agents launched a ground and air operation utilizing Black Hawk and Titan aircraft, in addition to technology from the Drone Unit and thermal imaging systems.
As a result of this deployment, the victim was located in a mountainous area situated on the border between the municipalities of Ixtlahuacán del Río and Cuquío.
The U.S. citizen received immediate medical attention and was reported to be out of danger. Meanwhile, the alleged captor was arrested and transferred to the appropriate ministerial authority to determine his legal status.
Furthermore, the operation involved personnel from the state police and prosecutor’s office, as well as the Secretariat of National Defense and the National Guard.
According to the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, 171 cases of unlawful detention were recorded in Jalisco between January and April 2026.
