An alarming citizen complaint has begun circulating on social media, exposing an alleged case of abuse of authority, extortion, and threats by public security officers in the Yucatecan capital. According to the victims’ testimonies, the man was deprived of money he had legally obtained from the sale of a plot of land, under the unfounded claim that the funds were of illicit origin.
The incident occurred after a citizen formally completed the sale of a property. According to his immediate family, as the man was returning from finalizing the transaction, he was intercepted by police officers in an official vehicle visually identified in the complaints as patrol car number 4028.
The officers arbitrarily confiscated 25,000 pesos in cash. When the victim’s wife attempted to recover the money, the officers refused to let her, arguing without presenting any evidence that the cash “was stolen.”
“My uncle just sold his land, and when he was returning, the police took the money. It’s 25,000 pesos, and they refuse to give it back to my aunt, claiming it was stolen. If they want, I can take them to the place where the land was sold so they can see it wasn’t as they say,” said a relative who requested anonymity.
The situation escalated when, in addition to the withholding of the cash, the victim allegedly received explicit threats from the officers, intended to intimidate him and prevent him from filing a formal complaint with the appropriate legal authorities.
The family emphasizes their willingness to prove the legality of the funds, offering to take the relevant authorities directly to the site where the land was sold to clear up any unfounded suspicions held by the local police force.
Fearing further physical or legal repercussions, the family has decided to circulate a photo of the official vehicle involved to draw the attention of high-ranking officials at the Yucatán Public Security Secretariat (SSP). Citizens and internet users are demanding an immediate investigation by the Internal Affairs department to identify the crew assigned to patrol 4028 and proceed with the full return of the family’s assets.
