The vehicle license plate replacement program has concluded in Jalisco, meaning drivers who did not complete the process could face fines of up to 7,000 pesos for driving with expired plates.

In a statement, the Jalisco government indicated that the program closed with a renewal rate equivalent to 93% of the estimated goal for the state, thus strengthening the updating of the state’s vehicle registry.

The state administration emphasized that license plate renewal represents a strategic action to strengthen security, provide greater legal certainty to vehicle owners, and keep the vehicle registry up to date.

Furthermore, it thanked the citizens who participated in the exchange and recognized the work of the tax collection office staff who increased service during the last few months.

Who could be fined in Jalisco?

Article 367 of the Jalisco State Law on Mobility, Road Safety, and Transportation establishes that those who drive without license plates or with expired plates will be fined between 20 and 60 UMA (Unit of Measurement and Update).

The provision states: “Driving without license plates or with expired plates, without the corresponding concession, permit, or authorization, or with an expired license plate.”

According to the legislation, fines could range from 2,346 to 7,038 pesos.

With the completion of the program, state authorities seek to consolidate a more reliable vehicle registry, strengthen vehicle identification mechanisms, and improve the quality of records in the state.
