The Secretary of the Interior, Jesús Romero López, reported the arrest of 116 people in Juchitán de Zaragoza, Oaxaca, following the implementation of the “Peace Plan” and Operation “Sable.”

Among those arrested, he stated, are key targets of organized crime, including men identified as hitmen and drug dealers, among others.

He added that authorities have seized 49 vehicles, some armored; 14 handguns, six rifles, one homemade firearm, 142 rounds of ammunition and 172 magazines; 1,861 doses of crystal meth, 66 doses of cocaine, 179 doses of marijuana; 864,440 pesos in cash; cell phones; banners with messages; digital scales; and other items.

“Many drug dealers have been arrested in Juchitán, and 1,861 doses of crystal meth, the main drug circulating in the municipality, have been seized. Individuals involved in extortion and protection rackets, totaling nearly one million pesos, have been arrested with cash. Cell phones have provided intelligence.”

Romero López stated that since the state government’s “Peace Plan,” along with the actions of Operation “Sable,” coordinated by the Oaxaca Attorney General’s Office and the Mexican Navy, only two homicides have been recorded in this municipality in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec region.

Following the violence in Juchitán, where one of the most recent cases was the murder of a child, actions were implemented as part of a so-called “comprehensive strategy.” This strategy involved the deployment of public security forces to regain “territorial control,” as well as social programs related to job creation, education, health, and the reorganization of public transportation.

“More than 19 institutions are participating with 40 operations across the territory. This strengthens the peace and well-being of Juchitán and helps contain acts of violence.

“The results we see today are the product of a comprehensive strategy. Territorial control has been strengthened through coordinated operations with a force of 249 personnel, 34 patrol cars, 30 motorcycles, and two Kodiak trucks,” he said.
