The governor of Querétaro, Mauricio Kuri González, announced the suspension of classes for next Thursday so that students and teachers can follow the Mexican National Soccer Team’s participation. During a public address, the governor stated that, given the current national context, it is time to prioritize unity over political differences and support the national team.
“Mexico needs good news, and we are in a moment of unity. It is time to set aside any political party affiliation and embrace the three colors: green, white, and red. Let that be our only concern, let our only concern be our country,” he expressed.
Mauricio Kuri orders the suspension of school activities on June 11.
Kuri González believes that one of the elements that fosters cohesion among Mexicans is precisely the National Team, and therefore instructed the state education authority to suspend school activities for the day.
“I believe that part of what unites us is the National Team. Therefore, this Thursday I am asking the Secretary of Education to order that there be no classes next Thursday so that teachers and students can watch the game,” he declared.
The announcement was made within the framework of activities related to soccer and the promotion of sporting events in the state, which was recently confirmed as the host of a Mexican National Team match as part of its preparation for future international competitions. So far, education authorities have not specified whether the suspension will apply to all educational levels or if specific guidelines will be issued for public and private schools in the state.
