The Yucatán Prosecutor’s Office is investigating an alleged case of medical negligence that may have caused the death of a patient at a private hospital located in northern Mérida, Yucatán.
A 50-year-old man identified as Brendo Skylab R.G., originally from Campeche, died after undergoing a surgical procedure at an outpatient surgery center located in Residencial Cámara de Comercio.
The victim’s relatives stated that the patient arrived at the clinic on his own around 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, for surgery related to an anorectal fistula.

According to the family, they were informed that the procedure was considered low-risk and that he would be able to return home the same day.
They stated that after the surgery was completed, the patient was taken to the recovery area, where he allegedly suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest.
However, his relatives claimed they were not immediately informed about his condition and became concerned after noticing the arrival of a private ambulance at the facility.
They said it was not until later in the afternoon that nursing staff informed them of the patient’s death.
By that time, the doctor and anesthesiologist who performed the operation had reportedly left the clinic.
On social media, friends and acquaintances expressed their condolences following Brendo’s death, identifying him as a member of Section 42 of the Mexican Petroleum Workers’ Union (STPRM).
Seventeen years ago, the deceased was arrested by federal authorities for allegedly participating in kidnappings and extortion against notary offices, as a suspected member of Los Zetas, the armed wing of the Gulf Cartel.
