América De La Torre Jara and Bryan Omar De La Torre Jara, students from Colegio Mexicano de Reynosa, represented Mexico at the London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF), held in the United Kingdom.
According to the Tamaulipas Council of Science and Technology (COTACYT), the students obtained their international accreditation during the 2024 National Science Expo (ExpoCiencias Nacional 2024) thanks to their project AME: Aprende el Método En-señas.
What does the AME project consist of?
AME: Aprende el Método En-señas is an initiative created to strengthen the learning of Mexican Sign Language (Lengua de Señas Mexicana) through a method designed to bring this form of communication closer to more people and promote inclusion, empathy, and respect toward the deaf-silent community.
During the event, the students interacted with young scientists from more than 90 countries and participated in conferences and academic activities at Imperial College London, as well as at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge.
They presented their project to international specialists
América and Bryan also presented their proposal at the Science Bazaar, a space where the project attracted the interest of international specialists, according to information released by COTACYT.
Their participation received support from the Government of Tamaulipas and the state’s Secretariat of Education, through the Human Capital Development Program of COTACYT.
