Violence against women in the southern state continues unabated. This Thursday, Teresa C., approximately 40 years old, was shot and killed in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca.
According to initial reports, the killing occurred at around 1:00 p.m. this Thursday, September 3, 2026, near the Las Granjas del Pescador residential development, in Puerto Escondido, in the municipality of San Pedro Mixtepec. According to preliminary information, the victim died after suffering gunshot wounds.
The incident prompted security personnel to arrive at the scene and cordon off the area. Later, personnel from the State Investigation Agency and the Coast Deputy Prosecutor’s Office arrived to recover the body and begin the corresponding investigation.
Just this Sunday morning, August 30, Natasha Guiedanni Gutiérrez, former councilwoman of Santo Domingo Tehuantepec, was also killed in an armed attack in which her brother was injured. The attack occurred near the Camilo Flores and Flor de Azalea neighborhoods of Santo Domingo Tehuantepec.
With the killing of Teresa C., the number of women violently killed in the state of Oaxaca so far this year has reached 52, according to the “Rosario Castellanos” Women’s Studies Group (GESMujer).
According to the data collected, the regions with the highest levels of violence against women are the Costa region, with 14 cases of violent deaths, while the Isthmus and Central Valleys report 13 killings.
According to the GESMujer report, 50 percent of the killings were caused by gunshots, while in 33 percent of cases the cause was not specified.
