The new air route that will connect Nuevo Laredo with Tampico and Cancún already has a launch date, raising expectations among travelers who will be looking for a more efficient and comfortable way to travel, whether for work or simply for tourism, to the southern part of the country. But how much will it cost to fly from the Tamaulipas border to the Mexican Caribbean?
When Does the Nuevo Laredo–Cancún Route With a Stop in Tampico Begin?
Viva Aerobus will begin operating the new connection on November 14, 2026, with two weekly frequencies, on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The flight will have an express stopover at Tampico International Airport, where passengers traveling to Cancún will remain aboard the aircraft for approximately 30 minutes.
The flight will depart from Tampico at 7:50 in the morning and is expected to arrive in Nuevo Laredo before 9:00 a.m. It will depart Nuevo Laredo again at 9:40 a.m., arriving in Tampico at 11:00 a.m., and from there continue toward Cancún.
How Much Will the Nuevo Laredo–Cancún Flight Cost?
The airline Viva Aerobus has not publicly announced a specific fare for the complete Nuevo Laredo–Cancún route.
Walfred Castro Novelo, Viva Aerobus’ Director of Corporate Communications, said there are already price references for the flights that make up this new connection.
For the flight between Nuevo Laredo and Tampico, he reported that it will cost approximately 1,000 pesos for a round trip, plus the Airport Use Fee (TUA). In other words, the Nuevo Laredo-to-Tampico portion will cost approximately 600 pesos, while Tampico-to-Nuevo Laredo will cost 270 pesos plus the TUA, resulting in the specified amount.
Meanwhile, Viva Aerobus currently offers flights between Tampico and Cancún. On its official website, fares starting at 267 pesos in the economy category are shown, although the corresponding charges must be added to that amount.
Does the Stop in Tampico Mean Getting Off the Plane?
One of the main attractions of the new connection is precisely that Tampico will operate as an express stopover. Passengers traveling from Nuevo Laredo to Cancún will be able to remain aboard the aircraft for approximately 30 minutes during the stop before continuing to their destination in the Mexican Caribbean.
The route seeks to significantly reduce travel times between northern and southern Tamaulipas, as well as facilitate the connection between Nuevo Laredo and one of the country’s main tourist destinations. Viva Aerobus expects to make approximately 5,000 seats available during November and December as part of the new air connection.
The airline already operates in both Nuevo Laredo and Tampico. In the case of the Nuevo Laredo–AIFA route, Viva reported having transported approximately 81,000 travelers during the year, a figure that served as a reference for expanding connectivity from the border city.
There Is Still No Fare From Nuevo Laredo to Cancún
For now, those who want to know the exact price of a trip to Cancún will have to wait for Viva to publish the fare for the new route or check availability directly for November dates.
The final price will depend on the selected fare, travel date, availability, and additional charges, so the amount announced as the base fare does not necessarily represent the total cost of the ticket.
