Michoacán Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla stated that the dismissal of 109 municipal police officers in Uruapan was the decision of Mayor Grecia Quiroz.

In the same regard, he called Quiroz’s statement a lie, after she claimed that the municipal officers were dismissed by the Executive Secretariat of the State Public Security System (SESESP).

At a press conference, Ramírez Bedolla stated that the state government has no authority over municipal police departments regarding labor matters.

Later, the state governor explained that the 109 police officers did not undergo the trust and retention evaluations because they were not sent by the Uruapan municipal authorities to complete those legally required procedures.

“The statements made by Grecia Quiroz are false,” the governor said.

Greece Quiroz’s Version Denied

Meanwhile, the SESESP also denied having instructed, requested, or recommended that the Uruapan City Council dismiss or remove police officers from their positions.

It even emphasized that the Secretariat has no authority to intervene in the dismissal of municipal police officers.

The head of the state agency, César Erwin Sánchez, explained that each municipality is responsible for hiring and managing the personnel who make up its police forces.

The municipality of Uruapan, like the other 112 municipalities, determines the hiring, dismissal, or separation of its officers.

The institution explained that each municipality is responsible for hiring and managing the personnel who make up its police forces.

Likewise, it is responsible for determining the hiring, dismissal, or separation of officers.

How Are Municipal Police Officers Credentialed?

César Erwin Sánchez explained that for an officer to be properly credentialed, they must meet the established requirements.

These include passing a trust and confidence evaluation, a process carried out before the corresponding agency, as well as completing the initial training course provided by the institution responsible for police professionalization, he added.

“I do not give instructions about whom to hire and whom not to hire,” concluded the head of the Secretariat.
