The sales of chairs abroad were 7.3 million dollars, which represents an increase of around 1.1 million dollars compared to the previous year, according to the Association of Furniture Manufacturers of Jalisco.
The Association of Furniture Manufacturers of Jalisco (Afamjal) reported that chair exports increased 18 percent, which positioned Mexico as the second largest seller of the product.
“In 2022, Mexico surpassed Poland and became the second largest chair exporter in the world,” the business organization revealed.
According to the private body, chair sales abroad were 7.3 million dollars, which represents an increase of around 1.1 million dollars compared to the previous year. China remains the leader in chair exports to the foreign market.
He added that the national furniture industry is an engine of development and economic growth in Mexico, as it generates around 525 thousand direct and indirect jobs, due to the 32 thousand companies that exist in the field within the territory.
The value of national furniture production was more than 761 million dollars in 2022, so it is expected that at the end of 2023 a growth of around 4 percent will have been registered in the industry.
The growth of the furniture industry was due to the dynamism and variety of manufacturing companies that exist in the country, which produce from traditional to contemporary designs.
Afamjal mentioned the importance of promoting the furniture sector in the global scenario, so it urged to participate in the next edition of Expo Mueble Internacional Invierno 2024, which will take place from February 14 to 17 at Expo Guadalajara and expects about 30 thousand visitors from countries such as Mexico, the United States, Canada, Brazil, Central America, among others.
The fair will have 550 exhibiting companies distributed on an exhibition floor of 72 thousand square meters, which covers the Guadalajara Hall, Jalisco Hall, Mexico Hall, Mexico Design Pavilion, Expoficina, the Textile Pavilion and the Brazilian Pavilion.
