There is a 120,000-peso difference between the cheapest and most expensive electric SUV, and it is not because of the battery.

The offer of electric SUVs in Mexico already includes options with significant differences in price and size. Between the BYD Yuan Pro EV and the Geely EX5 GF Electric, there is a 120,100-peso price gap, but not all of the equipment changes with the price. Both incorporate technology that allows the battery to be used in a different way.

The 579,800-peso SUV also has this technology

With a price of 579,800 pesos, the BYD Yuan Pro EV is positioned below the Geely EX5 Electric, which reaches 699,900 pesos. Despite the 120,100 pesos separating them, both models feature V2L (Vehicle-to-Load).

This technology allows part of the energy stored in the battery to be used as a portable power source for connecting external devices, as if you had a household electrical outlet.

They also share a base level of equipment

Among the similarities are electrically adjustable front seats, with six positions for the driver and four for the passenger. They also include six airbags, disc brakes on all four wheels, ABS, electronic stability control, traction control, electronic brake-force distribution, and hill-assist systems.

In terms of the technological experience, both feature wireless charging, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, as well as mobile applications for checking vehicle information, monitoring charging, and performing functions such as pre-conditioning.

For everyday use, both models include heated exterior mirrors with electric adjustment and folding, an electronic parking brake with Auto-Hold, and automatic air conditioning.

BYD, for its part, adds features that do not appear in Geely’s specifications, such as a spare tire, an NFC key for the phone, and karaoke with a UHF wireless microphone.

The additional 120,100 pesos are noticeable in range and performance

With a 60.22 kWh battery, the Geely EX5 advertises 470 kilometers of range under the NEDC cycle. Its rival uses a 45 kWh battery and advertises 380 kilometers under the same cycle.

That is a 90-kilometer difference in favor of the Geely, an advantage that can become relevant when the vehicle is used for longer trips.

There is also a difference in performance. The EX5 produces 214 HP and 320 Nm of torque, compared with the BYD’s 174 HP and 290 Nm. In acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h, it records 7.1 seconds, compared with 7.9 seconds for the Yuan Pro, and reaches a top speed of 175 km/h.
