Man shot in a Colima restaurant thought to be a Mexican senator

An armed attack left one person dead and three injured in a restaurant in Colima, this morning, Monday, January 15; Former senator Jorge Luis Preciado clarified that he was not a victim of the shooting as was spread on social networks and the media.

Armed men entered the establishment and attacked four people who were inside the Pancho Arenas restaurant, on León Felipe and September 27 streets, in the Lomas Verdes neighborhood of the state capital.

After the attack, the men escaped in a vehicle, according to local media.

Three people were injured and one man died in the shooting, Colima press reports detailed.

Paramedics from the Red Cross, as well as police officers of the Colima Public Security Secretariat, the Navy Secretariat, and the State Attorney General’s Office, arrived in the area, as well as staff from the Health Institute for Wellbeing (Insabi).

The Red Cross, Colima delegation, detailed that two people, who were rushed to various hospitals, had injuries that were not life-threatening and were in stable health, while the other was in serious condition.

After it was spread on social networks that former senator Jorge Luis Preciado had been murdered in that shooting, the politician clarified that he was not at the Pancho Arenas restaurant, located in north Colima.

“It’s not me, I’m very sorry for what happened to that person, my deepest condolences to his family. Some people said it was me who got shot, but is not correct, I’m here taking care of children (…) at home with my wife.'” said the former candidate for the presidential candidacy for the Front for Mexico in a video broadcast on social networks and recorded from his house.
