Vacation? La Paz and Los Cabos, the safest destinations in Mexico, according to INEGI

The population of 18 years and older expressed in December 2023 that they feel safe in these two places in Baja California Sur according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography.

La Paz and Los Cabos are rated as the safest places in Mexico, according to the National Survey of Urban Public Security (ENSU) conducted by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) corresponding to the fourth quarter of 2023.

These two tourist destinations located in Baja California Sur are placed in the top 6 of the cities where the population of 18 years and older perceive less insecurity, they are in the ranking with: Benito Juárez who perceived 15.2% of insecurity, Puerto Vallarta, with 19.4%; Piedras Negras, with 20.5%; Mérida, with 22.2%; La Paz, with 22.4% and Los Cabos, with 23.2 percent.

The governor of the state, Víctor Castro Cosío, explained that these results have been largely due to the creation of strategies through the Security Table for the Construction of Peace, which is developed every morning with all the security entities.

“Baja California Sur is one of the safest states, those data are publicly recorded in the national reports of the secretariat, now the social perception survey says it, the investors, the big businessmen. We are a safe state fortunately and until now, of course”.

Not only these two places are an example at the national level in lower perception of insecurity, the entire state of Baja California Sur is a reference in security in the country, this according to the National Survey of Victimization and Perception on Public Security (ENVIPE) 2023, where the half peninsula was positioned nationally as the entity with the highest perception of security, with 66.6%.

In December 2022, La Paz presented a higher percentage in perception of insecurity with 27.8 percent, in 2023 77.6 percent of the population feels safe. In contrast, although Los Cabos is within the safest places in Mexico, in 2022 it had presented a lower perception of insecurity with 20.9 percent while in December 76.8 percent of the citizens feel safe.
