Migrants are ‘stranded’ in Veracruz’; The Oaxaca government had promised them transportation

Tierra Blanca, in Veracruz, is one of the transit sites for migrant people from Honduras, El Salvador, among other countries.

Migrants who make up a caravan arrived in Veracruz after the Oaxaca government put buses for them to move them forward, but they accuse that they abandoned them, so they say they have been deceived.

The migrants arrived in the Tierra Blanca area, one of the transit sites for foreign people, where they were left after staying for weeks in the state of Oaxaca.

However, now they must continue their journey on foot. Coming from Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Venezuela and other countries, the members of the Caravan “Exodus of Poverty” left several weeks ago from Chiapas.

The goal was to reach the north of the state, where they would try to cross to the United States. In Oaxaca they were offered transportation by bus, but they only advanced a few kilometers to reach Veracruz.

Migrants are divided between Oaxaca and Veracruz

In the buses the caravan was divided into two parts, one with about 500 people who arrived in the Acayucan area, where authorities of the National Migration Institute detained them, although some unofficial versions point out that they have already been released, but again in Oaxaca.

While others indicate that they still remain in the migration station. The drivers of these buses were arrested, which caused blockades in Oaxaca to demand that they be released, as they fear that they will be accused of trafficking migrants despite having been hired by the government.

The other part of the caravan, with about 500 people, arrived in the Tierra Blanca area. There they received support and food from a shelter, but they cannot provide them with a place to sleep due to the high number, so they had to spend the night outdoors.

Currently, the migrants continue their journey on foot to try to reach the next destinations, which can take several days, as many are tired, sick or without a good diet.
