On February 25, the “Medio Maratón Mujer Querétaro 2024” will take place, in the categories of 5, 10 and 21 kilometers; This was presented by authorities from the municipality of Querétaro and organizers of this sporting event, who affirmed that they seek to commemorate International Women’s Day by dedicating an exclusive race for this gender.
Director of the Municipal Sports Institute in the capital of Querétaro, Mauricio Vergara Lobato, highlighted the collaboration of the authorities in carrying out this event, which he said, is a sign of the impulse of initiatives and commitments from the government, for the benefit of women.
“It is not only an opportunity to promote physical activity and female empowerment, but also a space where we celebrate the determination and strength of all the women who wish to participate,” he said.
For his part, Tonatiuh Bravo, director of Run On, recalled that this series was born in Querétaro in 2018, unique in the world only for women, with 7 thousand runners. It will soon be held in cities such as Mazatlán, Monterrey, Mexico City and Guadalajara; and in countries like Guatemala and Costa Rica. He indicated that the registration of runners from other states is expected, which contributes to the tourism sector and the economic spill for the capital, since the attendance on the day of the event of more than 70 thousand people is estimated.
At the moment, there are already 2,300 runners registered; where the first thousand registered women will receive, at the end of the race, a medal with their name engraved. In this edition, the participation of more than 6 thousand runners is expected due to the restart of the series, which was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2020.
The medal has an artisanal seal, with the figure of the doll that the Otomi women from Querétaro make, in addition to having been hand-painted; and the shirt, which will be presented in the coming dates, is pink with the figure of the Otomi doll and, on the back, the logo of the half marathon.
The delivery of the kits will take place on February 23 and 24, at the facilities of the Manuel Gómez Morín Cultural Center, during the Half Marathon Expo. Talks will be offered, in addition to coexistence and having promotions and gifts; as well as the offer of artisan products from women native to Amealco. The cost of registration for the race is 600 pesos.
