Casa UwU, in the National Park Lagunas de Chacahua

The exclusive hotel for adults is on an island in front of a virgin beach within the Chacahua area. It is just under two hours from Puerto Escondido and you can only access by boat.

It has four luxurious ecological villas with organic decoration, as they were made with natural materials from the region. The minimalism in its interiors was designed to blend in with the lush environment. Its beautiful terraces have a sea view, outdoor jacuzzi and hanging nests to sit and relax or read a book.

In its restaurant bar, Mexican, Japanese and varied cocktails are served. The pool is on the beach where the beach club was also installed.

Aldea Mizúl, in Paraje El Mirador

Just 15 minutes from Laguna de Manialtepec and 35 from Puerto Escondido, in front of a practically virgin and depopulated coast, known as Paraje El Mirador, is Aldea Mizúl, a rustic and cozy beach hotel, intended for well-being.Foto: Aldea Mizúl

Each of its circular-shaped villas, in the style of palapas with palm roofs and lime walls, is decorated in a very simple, but stylish way, dominating the light tones and wood finishes, such as its doors, screens and furniture, inspired by the ancestral villages. They have a tub, a terrace with loungers and a private outdoor pool surrounded by lots of vegetation. In the common areas, you will find a pergola with hammocks, a restaurant with seafood and international food and a terrace bar.

As part of their activities, they offer bike tours, visit to hot springs near the complex, romantic dinners and horseback riding on the beach with your partner, with the possibility of doing it at sunset.

Samora Luxury Resort, in Playa Cumaná

This complex is a luxury resort with six bungalows crowned by a thatched roof, and a pair of suites. All of them have a austere but elegant decoration with wood finishes, marble floors, colorful furniture of contemporary style and artisanal Oaxacan details. This paradise is surrounded by palm trees and tropical vegetation. Behind the property rises the imposing Sierra Madre del Sur, and in front, the Cumaná beach, calm to swim in its waters of blue and green tones.

It has rest areas, small terraces with sea view and outdoor dining. The simplest suites have all the necessary services for a dream stay. Walking along the trails will lead you to find comfortable armchairs to rest, a large central palapa, the beach club with jacuzzi, day beds and comfortable giant cushions. The focal point is a long pool of 40 meters that extends to the sand.

The gastronomy of the restaurant is based on a mixture of healthy cuisine, Mediterranean and tropical flavors.

According to historical accounts, the pirates baptized the current Puerto Escondido as “Bahía de la Escondida”. The name is due to an indigenous woman who managed to escape from those bandits, hiding somewhere in this destination. They never found her.

Zoa Hotel, in the magical town of Mazunte

This boutique hotel took advantage of the rugged terrain of the Oaxacan coast to sit on the highest mountain of Mazunte. Trails in the middle of the jungle lead you to their eight coastal palapa-type cabins. All of them combine casual luxury, fresh and minimalist style and a relaxing atmosphere. Their private terraces with sea view, gardens, living rooms and mini-pools are some of their best spots. The common areas include an infinity pool with panoramic views of the Pacific; a tiny solitary beach at the base of a cliff with a terrace for two people, which is accessed by steep stairs; there is another one, near the sea, equipped with loungers to rest while the waves break on the rock wall; and a hammock area on sand floor as an artificial beach.

Its Amarte Mar restaurant specializes in fish, seafood and cuisine from the Oaxacan coast. You can request a special dinner in any of their viewpoints or terraces. There are three menus to choose from.

Monte Uzulu, in San Agustinillo

Uzulu is a word that comes from gsulú. In Zapotec it means ‘beginning’ or ‘start’. According to legend, this people was born in the clouds in the shape of birds, while their gods became stars and planets. This was the origin, when everyone was equal and there was a perfect balance between humans and nature. In harmony with the environment, thanks to its efficient system of reuse and water collection, its 11 villas were built in an artisanal way by people from the community and with local materials, such as wood and clay. Each one receives the name of a locality of the region: Zicatela, Juquila, Manialtepec, Chacahua, Mazunte, Pinotepa, to mention some. The villas are for two people, perfect for a romantic plan. They are located on the slope of a mountain covered with jungle: some occupy the lower level and others the upper one. Their decoration is minimalist, rustic contemporary, of ocher tones, with some wooden furniture, a pair of woven baskets and a curious handmade straw pendant. Their terraces have a sea view and a pair of loungers. It has a restaurant specialized in breakfasts.

Among its activities, there are yoga sessions, surf lessons, temazcal, massages and the possibility of organizing experiences according to the taste and budget of the guests. If you go as a couple, they offer you some kind of decoration for your room, with flowers or regional plants; or a picnic on the beach that includes fruit, wine or mezcal.

Casa Bichú, in Puerto Angel

They are palapas made with palm and wood, some with stone floors, parota furniture (whose artisanal elaboration respected the shape of the trunks) and curtains with colored beads. Seven of them have a sea view, although they all have terraces with hammock, private bathroom and minibar. The largest ones can be two-story and have an outdoor jacuzzi.

Casa Bichú has gardens with palm trees, loungers to sunbathe and a pool with jacuzzi at the edge of the cliff. There, is its restaurant of international dishes and seafood. To get to the beach, you just have to walk along a steep path of about 150 meters.

Request a romantic dinner on one of their terraces. It consists of a three-course menu, at the choice of the guests.
