Despite the high costs of the private hospital, which exhausted the insurance policy of 20 thousand euros in just two days, it is not possible to transfer the patient to a public institution because he is in a critical phase.
Adrián’s wife works in the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital de la Ribera, in her native Spain, so she knows the risk of stopping treatment. The diagnosis points to bilateral pneumonia due to flooding of 80 percent of the patient’s lungs, according to the Levante report.
“The Spanish embassy is aware of everything, but they tell us that they cannot do anything beyond providing information, but they cannot repatriate him to be admitted to a Spanish hospital as if it had happened in a similar case in Thailand, nor can they cover hospitalization expenses,” laments the wife.
The municipal council of Anzira is also aware of the case, but they justify that public funds cannot be allocated to help the couple who just got married in January and were celebrating their honeymoon, so civil society itself has mobilized to save money.
Such is the case with the Federation of Moors and Christians, which will hold a raffle over the weekend during the Mig Any Fester (an athletics club), with the money raised going directly to the struggling family.
