U.S. authorities revoked the visas of Benito Juárez Municipal President Ana Patricia Peralta de la Peña; her husband, Lucio Galileo Lastra Abreu; and her father-in-law, Lucio Galileo Lastra Escudero, while in Mexico, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) has ongoing investigations involving the mayor over alleged diversion of public funds, possible operations related to tax fuel smuggling, and alleged contacts with individuals linked to the Sinaloa Cartel.
The information was disclosed Tuesday by El Financiero, which reported that sources familiar with the case confirmed the cancellation of the visas of the three members of the Peralta-Lastra family, which includes among its relatives Rodrigo de la Peña, who heads one of Cancún’s hotel industry lobbying groups.
According to information published by the national outlet, U.S. authorities have not made public the specific reasons why they decided to revoke the visas, so it has also not been established that the measure is directly related to the investigations being conducted by the FGR in Mexico.
The federal investigation includes several lines of inquiry related to the management of resources and structures within the Benito Juárez municipal government, including one seeking to determine whether public funds, personnel, or municipal structures were used to politically favor Rafael Marín Mollinedo, former head of Mexico’s National Customs Agency (ANAM) and an aspiring candidate for the governorship of Quintana Roo.
This comes as various tourism organizations in Quintana Roo representing the sector that supports the state’s economy avoided commenting in recent days on the revelation that the governor accumulated 97 private flights to luxury destinations in the United States, such as Orlando, Florida, and Vail, Colorado, according to an investigation published by Reforma.
According to the data cited in the investigation, Mara Lezama accumulated 119 immigration movements, 97 of which were associated with private flights. The records cover the period during which the current governor was municipal president of Benito Juárez, whose municipal seat is Cancún, and later governor beginning in September 2022.
Mara Lezama, members of her family, and Morena senator Eugenio “Gino” Segura, who has been identified as her potential successor as REPORTUR.mx has reported, accumulated 605 records of entries into and departures from Mexico between December 2018 and December 2025. Of that total, 283 movements were associated with flights on private aircraft.
The issue has dominated the political agenda in Quintana Roo and throughout the country because of its unusual nature, and it is expected to shape the public agenda in the coming days. However, the most representative tourism organizations in a state whose tourism industry includes prominent figures such as José Chapur and Xcaret have chosen not to express either support or suspicion, at least for the time being.
