The arrival of cruise ships in Cozumel continues to trend downward as the low season progresses, with a reduction in vessels and passengers compared with the beginning of 2026, according to figures from the Port Administration of Quintana Roo (APIQROO).
The year began with 161 cruise ships and 542,961 visitors in January; however, during the following months, traffic gradually declined. May recorded the lowest number of passengers during the period, with 346,290, while June had the fewest arrivals, with 84 vessels.
In July, a slight recovery was observed, with 92 cruise ships and 395,789 visitors recorded. In August, the figure fell again to 88 vessels, while only 15 cruise ships are expected to arrive during the first week of September.
The decline coincides with the seasonal behavior of the cruise industry, which typically experiences lower passenger traffic during the summer months. Cruise ship arrivals represent an important source of activity for tourism service providers, businesses, restaurants, and tour operators on the island.
With the start of the high season in the coming months, the pattern of cruise arrivals will be key to the recovery of visitor numbers and tourism-related economic activity in Cozumel.
As reported by REPORTUR.mx, by June, cruise ships were maintaining a positive trend in Cozumel during 2026. At the time, Vagner Elbiorn Vega, director general of the Port Administration of Quintana Roo (Apiqroo), reported that the island could close the year with the arrival of 1,374 vessels, 74 more than in 2025.
