The Mexico Peace Index 2023, prepared by the Institute for Economy and Peace (IEP), reveals that Colima was the state with the highest level of violence in the country, reaching 111 deaths per 100 thousand people. This data exceeds the record set in 2022.

On the other hand, Yucatán maintains its position as the entity with the highest peace index for the seventh consecutive year, followed by Tlaxcala and Chiapas. However, despite Chiapas’ high ranking on the index, in the last year it has experienced an increase in violence rates due to the growing infiltration of organized crime groups in the region.

The IEP report also highlights that since 2015 there has been a significant increase in homicides related to organized crime, which went from approximately 8,000 to about 20,000.

In addition, an increase has been observed in the registrations of unauthorized international migrants in Mexico in the last 3 years, reaching a record of 800 thousand in 2023.
