Durango was placed among the five most peaceful entities in Mexico, according to the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) Global Peace Index

Durango was positioned among the first places of the most peaceful states in Mexico, according to the most recent analysis of the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) Global Peace Index.
According to a publication on its social networks, the IEP reported that Durango is among the list of the five most peaceful states in our country, accompanied by Yucatán, Tlaxcala, Chiapas and Coahuila.
Durango was ranked fourth with low homicide rates, firearm crimes, and prevalence of organized crime.
In the same sense, the IEP Global Peace Index recognized that the peace index in Mexico improved by 1.4 percent in 2023, and that the number of homicides was reduced by 5.3 percent, which, it explained, marked a fourth consecutive year down.
However, he acknowledged that homicides continue to be a problem for Mexican authorities, as there continue to be more than 30,000 victims each year.
“Improving peace in Mexico requires broader strategies that include the fight against corruption and the creation of effective institutions that enjoy the trust of citizens. To address the high levels of violence, a holistic and integrated public security and peacebuilding framework is needed,” the institution explained.
